Teacher, Preacher, Servant
Dr. Tommy P. Smith is Servant-Leader/Pastor of Divine Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Virginia. He is a Georgia native who moved to Florida as a teenager where he entered the U.S. Air Force in 1981 and completed over 24 years of honorable service. However, he continued to wear the uniform for another 11 years and served as an Aerospace Instructor, where he mentored and educated high school students/cadets in leadership development and management skills. Prior to joining the military Dr. Smith acknowledged his "Calling" and his military experience helped to mold and fashion him into the "Teacher-Preacher-Servant" he is today.
Dr. Smith remembers sharing the Gospel with his second-grade teacher (Mrs. Garfield) when he was only seven years old. God was already developing him into a “Man” with a “Message” to fulfill the “Mission” as the Apostle Paul stated in Acts 1:8b, “and ye shall be witnesses unto Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” His remarkable testimony inspired Mrs. Garfield to visit the church where Dr. Smith attended, and Mrs. Garfield responded to the invitation to discipleship and gave her life to Christ—to God be the glory for the great things He began to do through Dr. Smith at an early age
